Today is RE/MAX Global Balloon Day!

COMMEMORATE: This commemorative poster can be downloaded from RE/MAX Mainstreet.
Today (Oct. 8), RE/MAX flies high across the globe as it celebrates a historic milestone.

"Global Balloon Day" marks the day 30 years ago when the network adopted the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon as its corporate symbol after it flew in the 1978 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

I am facing Foreclosure, should I just mail the bank my keys?
October 6th, 2008 1:34 PM

Here are our top ten reasons to do everything you can to avoid a foreclosure:

10.  Foreclosures are forever!  By simply mailing in your keys to the bank you will not stop the foreclosure process.  The bank will proceed with the foreclosure.

9.  Foreclosures will haunt you forever.  You will have to disclose that you have had a foreclosure in future mortgage applications, and job applications you fill out from today forward.

8.  Your credit score will be lowered by up to 300 points and a foreclosure is the most devastating credit issue you can have in relation to scores.

7.  A foreclosure is the most difficult credit item to “repair”.

6.  A foreclosure will remain on public records for an indefinite amount of time, and on a person's credit score for 10 years or more.

5.  Security clearances and government positions including but not limited to military and law enforcement can be jeopardized by a foreclosure.

4.  Avoiding foreclosure may be as easy as calling a licensed REALTOR with experience in distressed situations and getting an analysis and possible solutions.

3.  Many banks are accepting short sales - a process that if you hire the right REALTOR will allow you to avoid foreclosure at no cost to you, the bank will pay all commissions and closing costs.

2.  You may be responsible for any defaults after foreclosure for an indeterminate period of time depending on the state you live in, this will land you in never ending collections. In a short sale, the debts are forgiven and are NOT reported on your credit report as a derogatory item.

1.  And number one - while it may not seem like it now there will come a time where your current financial troubles will pass and you will feel much better knowing that you did everything you can to avoid this devastating financial consequence so many people face today.  There is light on the other side of the tunnel.  Reclaim your life.

Our advice - contact at least 3 REALTORs in your area and get an opinion of what can be done in order to help you avoid this harshest of consequences.  While not all foreclosures can be stopped many of them stand a very good chance of being avoided. There are options!

Memory Maintenance
September 23rd, 2008 10:12 AM

Can’t remember where you put the car keys? Your aunt’s phone number? A certain amount of memory slippage is normal as we age, but recent research indicates there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to keep those momentary and annoying mental fumbles to a minimum.

Exercise – it works for everything else, why not memory? Studies show that regular aerobic exercise boosts cerebral blood volume (CBV) and helps the brain regenerate neurons in the hippocampus, a site that helps with memory.

Diet – the flatter the belly, the less likely you are to develop dementia, say researchers. Stick with fresh fruits and veggies and essential omega-3 fatty acids to battle the free radicals that can damage brain cells.

Sleep – adequate rest refreshes the brain. Try to get your 8 hours.

The Dash ~ Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
September 22nd, 2008 9:26 PM

The Dash Poem

By Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak

At the funeral of a friend

He referred to the dates on her tombstone

From the beginning to the end

He noted that first came her date of her birth

And spoke the following date with tears,

But he said what mattered most of all

Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time

That she spent alive on earth.

And now only those who loved her

Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own;

The cars, the house, the cash,

What matters is how we live and love

And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.

Are there things you’d like to change?

For you never know how much time is left,

That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough

To consider what’s true and real

And always try to understand

The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,

And show appreciation more

And love the people in our lives

Like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,

And more often wear a smile

Remembering that this special dash

Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read

With your life’s actions to rehash

Would you be proud of the things they say

About how you spent your dash?
